Course Overview

Course offers a critical insight into the various crime causing factors in the society. Course discusses the methods and effectiveness of punishments on criminals and discusses the crime control techniques. The approach of State towards handling criminals and the human rights concerns will be explored. The victimology part of the course will examine the role of victims in criminal process and explain the rights of victims. Basic knowledge about crime and criminal system will help to empower the community.

Currently heading the School of Legal Studies, CUSAT, Dr. Harigovind P. C.Completed B.A.L. LL.B. from Government Law College, Kozhikode. Completed LL.M. (Human Rights and Criminal Law) from School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology. Secured Ph.D. in the topic Indian Law on Clinical Trials: A Human Rights Perspective from Cochin University. Received Dr. A. T. Markose Memorial Gold Medal and K. C. Menon Memorial Endowment for securing first rank for LL.M. He also Qualified UGC – National Eligibility Test. He has more than two dozen of publications to his credit and presented research papers at various national and international seminars. Jurisprudence, Legal Theory, Human Rights Law, Criminal Law, Criminology, Constitutional Law, Medical Law and Ethics are his areas of interest. Previously he worked as Assistant Professor at Bhavan’s N. A. Palkhivala Academy for Advanced Legal Studies, Kozhikode. He was also the co-editor of two books published by Directorate of Publications Cochin University of Science & Technology, Cochin titled ‘Mainstreaming Biodiversity, Human Environment and Sustainable Development & Contours of Privacy: Realities and Reflections’.
